Blast II Edge Iguanas 1-0

Updated Monday June 23, 2014 by Eric Thompson.

Iguanas lost 1-0 to Blast II on the Monday directly after the United States beat Ghana by a score of 2-1 in the World Cup. Those two results are directly related because more than half of the Iguanas team watched the USMNT game at a fellow Monday Division 2 team's sponsor, Brit's Pub.

Since Iguanas and Blast II weren't able to reschedule the game to properly celebrate the US victory, Iguanas arrived at the game, well...let's just say "shorthanded". The lack of cohesion (and coherency) hindered Iguanas throughout the game, but they fought Blast II to a scoreless draw at halftime. Near the 70th minute, Blast II finally broke through as a forward dribbled through the tired Iguanas defense for a breakaway goal. Iguanas pressed for an equalizer but they lacked the finishing touch in the final third.

Sure, the Iguanas loss was disappointing, but overall it was a still a great night thanks to the U.S. victory! Iguanas will look to rebound on Monday June 23rd against ACME, who currently sit atop the Monday Division 2 standings with an undefeated record. Iguanas and ACME split their games last season. ACME won 4-3 on their home field while Iguanas won 4-1 at Vadnais Heights in 2013.
