What Iguanas Need To Happen To QualifyUpdated Wednesday August 7, 2013 by Eric Thompson.
Three weeks ago, Iguanas sat at the bottom of the standings, in serious danger of being relegated. Thanks to a three game win streak, they'll stay in Division 2 heading into next season regardless of what happens next Monday.
But now with one game remaining in the regular season, Iguanas sit in the fourth and final playoff spot. They aren't guaranteed a spot in the postseason by any means, but there are many scenarios where they can make the playoffs.
We'll break down the three possible outcomes of Iguanas' upcoming game against Blast II and how they can qualify with each:
This one's pretty simple--if Iguanas win, they're guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. A win combined with a JAWA FC loss or draw against Eagle Street FC would qualify Iguanas as the 3rd seed instead of the 4th seed.
Iguanas make the playoffs if they draw AND Beer Engines FC loses or draws against Barcelona. If Iguanas draw and Beer Engines win, Iguanas would miss the playoffs.
Iguanas can still make the playoffs with a loss, but they would need a lot of help. They would need Beer Engines FC to lose or draw against Barcelona AND ACME to lose or draw against Brit's Pub FC in order to qualify. A loss combined with a win by either Beer Engines or ACME would disqualify Iguanas from the postseason.
So there you have it--if Iguanas win, they're in. If not, they'll become VERY big fans of the bottom two teams in the standings for one night.
